Switzerland Day

Hoi!

Today  we  learned  about  Switzerland  with  Mrs  Maurer!

Mrs  Maurer  told  us  about  the  Swiss flag.

Mrs  Maurer  showed  us  where  Switzerland  is  on  the  map.

Then  we  made  a  traditional hedgehog  or zorpf out  of  bread  dough.

First  we  rolled  the  dough  into  a   ball.

Next  we  pushed  one  end  to  make  the  hedgehog's nose.

Can  you  see  the  nose?

We   made   eyes  by  poking some  holes  in  the  dough  with  a  little  stick.

Then  we  poked  raisins  in  for  eyes.

Mrs  Maurer  showed  us  how  to  make  spikes  with  the  scissors.

Snip, snip, snip!

Next  we  put  our  hedgehogs  on  a  baking  tray  and  wrote  our  names  beside  them.

Mrs  Maurer  brushed  the  hedgehogs  with  egg  and  then  into  the  oven  they  went!

They  looked  so  delicious - we  couldn't  wait  to  eat  them.

Here  we  are  with  our yummy  hedgehogs!

Eating  them  was  the  best  part!

The  fun  and  learning wasn't  over.  Mrs  Maurer  also  gave  us  some  Swiss sausage  and  chocolate  to  taste!

Wow  we  loved  learning  about  Switzerland!

Thank  you  Mrs  Maurer!!!

Japan Day

Sayonara!

Room  1  and  2  had  a  great  day  learning  about  Japan.

We  found  Japan  on  the  world  map.

First  we  made  origami  houses  by  folding  paper  squares.

Then  we  cooked  and  ate  rice  with  chopsticks.

After  looking  at  some  pictures  of  blossom  trees  we  began  making  our  own  with  dye  and  card edge printing.

Mrs  Hollier  showed  us  some  Japanese  toys.  This  one  is  a  kokashi  doll  made  out  of  wood.

It  was  fun  to  make  our  own.

Japanese  children  also  fly  carp  fish  kites.  We  made  some  of  these  too.

Lastly  we  printed  blossoms  on  our  trees.  Come  and  see  them  in  our  classroom!
